Governor Godswill Akpabio

As part of activities commemorating the Golden Jubilee (50th) birthday anniversary of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio (CON), the U-17 National Team, known as Golden Eaglets, will square up against an Akwa Ibom U-17 Selected at the Uyo Township Stadium on Sunday, 9th December 2012.

The Godswill Akpabio Birthday Anniversary Football Committee, headed by Hon. John Ekpenyong, had written to the Nigeria Football Federation requesting the football-governing body to approve that the Golden Eaglets play the prestigeous friendly match.

The sports-loving Governor, who this week redeemed a pledge of N10 million to the Eaglets, will be 50 on December 9.

Ekpenyong said on Wednesday that the Akpabio Birthday Anniversary main organizing committee will be responsible for flying 18 players and 12 officials of the Golden Eaglets from Lagos to Uyo, once the team arrives from Bamako on Tuesday, December 4.

The Eaglets departed the country on Wednesday for Bamako, where they take on the Junior Eagles of Mali in their final qualifying fixture, second leg of the 2013 African U-17 Championship.

Nigeria won the first leg 2-0 in Calabar on Sunday, November 18.
