Managing Director, Lagos Channel Management Limited, Mr. Danny Fuchs, has said the company will partner the government in the development of the youths.
Fuchs, an Israeli, indicated the willingness of the joint venture dredging company to partner Nigeria so that the youth are engaged meaningfully. He stated this at the Lagos Island Campus Mini Stadium, Ajele, venue of this year’s 2nd Lagos Divisional Football Association, solely sponsored by the dredging company.
He posited that the country has so much human resources waiting to be tapped and harnessed, and except all hands were put on the deck, the dream of attaining the desired national greatness may be slightly delayed. He added that this was why his company took the initiative of supporting grass-roots talent hunt, especially in the area of football.
“The gracious grass-roots football initiative is aimed at two things: to search for and encourage building of football talents; and also to celebrate the only game that unites Nigerians together, irrespective of our little differences.
“We do hope that the event of today would help discover and nurture the Peles, Okochas and Messis of this world, young Nigerians who would in the near future, redefine soccer and take it a notch higher. This is our earnest expectation and hence our commitment to this great initiative” he said.
He enjoined other corporate bodies to join in the quest for the development of the Nigerian youths.
Also speaking at the occasion, an Atlanta 1996 Olympic gold medalist, Teslim Fatusi, urged Nigerians, particularly those in the private sector, to support governments at various levels to groom the youths, recalling that the Rangers, IICC Shooting Stars and the Flying Flamingo of the Stationary Stores attained greatness all because they received the desired support.
He also stressed the need for the authorities to target engaging the youths at an early age, stressing that this had remained the only magic wand for ensuring outstanding feats at international sports competitions.
