Dr. Ade Dosunmu

Governorship candidate of Lagos State chapter of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2011 poll, Dr. Ade Dosunmu, has canvassed for local government autonomy, saying it would enhance rapid development of the grassroots.
He equally charged the National Assembly to consider a more robust reform of the local government system that will guarantee political autonomy and efficient system than reducing the problem to what he described as the “joint State/Local Government Account” regime and other financial entanglements as enshrined in Section 162
In a statement, Dosunmu signed and made available to THISDAY Saturday, he noted that it was only a viable local government system that could complement any approach aimed at fast-tracking and deepening development in all ramifications.
According to Dosunmu, “within the context of stimulating development through the participatory governance at the grassroots, autonomy therefore becomes very crucial to imbue transparency, accountability and necessary oversights for managing resources.
“Lack of transparency and accountability in resource management at the local government level is also a direct consequence of lack of capacity amongst the people at the grassroots to engage the system for transparency and accountability.”
