You are the sculptor of your life. You are the architect of your destiny. You are the master of your fate. You are the director of your life-movie. You are the writer of your life-script. You are the producer of your life-experiences. You are the determinant of the quality of your life. You are the designer of the life of your dreams.
Nothing great can happen in your life unless you make it happen. According to Carl Sandberg, “Nothing happens unless first a dream. If you want to recreate your world into a masterpiece you have the power which is your ability to dream. John Maxwell reveals, “The poorest person in the world is not the person who doesn’t have a nickel. The poorest person in the world is the one who doesn’t have a vision. If you don’t have a dream-a goal and a purpose in life-you’re never going to become what you could become
It’s time to design your life; it’s time to consciously decide what you want. It’s time to get the ceiling off your mind. Begin by grabbing your pen and paper. Write down your goals in the important areas of life: spiritual; health; family; financial; social; mental and contribution goals. It is needful to write them down in their order of importance to you. As you write these goals, don’t try to figure out how you’re going to achieve these goals now. Mentally break free from every limitation. Remember, goals must be specific, clear and attainable but big enough to inspire.
The second exercise is to give a timeframe to each of the goals you have written. The timeframe could be categorized into short term; intermediate and long term goals. Please note that there should be a balance in the timeframe. If all your goals are short term, there is a need to include long term goals by viewing the possibilities and prospect of the future. Likewise, if all your goals are long term goals, there is need to include short term goals by viewing immediate possibilities and taking a step at a time towards the long term goals.
Write down the reasons you want to achieve these goals; why are this goals important to you? What will you gain by achieving it? What will you lose if you don’t achieve it? Remember, having a strong reason to do something is a thin line that demarcates between being committed and being interested. The next step is to write down the important resources you already have at your disposal that are required to fulfil these goals. Make a list of your strengths, skills, resources, talents, abilities etc. Describe the qualities you need to possess in order to attain your goals. These qualities include skills, attitudes, positive character traits, abilities and empowering beliefs.
Identify the obstacles between you and your goals and devise a plan of action to overcome these obstacles and set a time schedule for it. It is worthy of note that the obstacle between you and your goals could be yourself; Maybe it’s the habit of procrastinating; fear of failure; lack of self discipline. Whatever it is, you need to dissect your personality and discover the obstacle that has been limiting you.
Take each of these goals and create a step by step plan of how you are going to achieve it. In arriving at your destination you need to start from where you are now. So make out a plan that includes something you could do today. Remember, your future begins today.
If you are ever going to turn the invisible into the visible, you’ve got to “see” yourself already implementing your plans and eliminating the obstacles on your way and actually living out your dreams. Act as if you’ve already achieved your goals; walk; talk; and begin to feel as though you’ve accomplished each goal.
You must never lose focus on your goals. When you get your eyes of your goals, you’ll see the impediments on the way and discouragement sets in. However, when you fix your focus on your goals you move towards and arrive at your intended destination. Remember, your focus determines the direction of your life.
To accomplish your goals, you need to organize your time and learn the value of a minute. If you want to live an extraordinary life you need to make your time count and without exception your life will count.
The most important benefit of goals does not really lie in reaching goals but what you become in the process is what makes the difference. Anthony Robbins says it all, “The only reason we really pursue goals is to cause ourselves to expand and grow. Achieving goals by themselves will never make us happy in the long term; it’s who you become, as you overcome the obstacles necessary to achieve your goals, that can give you the deepest and most long-lasting fulfilment.”
