The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over a total of 306 containers of National Independent Power Project (NIPP) equipment recovered from the seaports in Lagos to the Minister of State, Power, Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim Kuchi.

The equipment is expected to boost electricity power supply across the country as they would be used to fast-track the delivery of several NIPP projects at various locations in the country.

Customs Area Controller (CAC), Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, Ikeja, Lagos, Comptroller Dan Ugo, who presented the items to Kuchi at brief handover ceremony at Nigeria’s premier port, Apapa Quay, Lagos, said NCS would continue to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda in the power sector is achieved for the benefit of the citizenry.

Ugo, who represented the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Inde Dikko Abdullahi, at the event, said the Federal Government’s success in ensuring the actualisation of the transformation of the power sector is dear to the Customs High Command. He stated that the service would not relent to source for such abandoned NIPP containers with a view to notifying the presidential taskforce on power.

Receiving the documents for the equipment, Kuchi thanked Abdullahi for the integrity which NCS has demonstrated in jealously guarding the recovered equipment. She reiterated the federal government’s determination to solve the epileptic power situation in the country by ensuring that all the recovered equipment is quickly taken to project sites.

Kuchi was accompanied to the port by the Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Power, Mr. Beks Dagogo Jacks; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Dr. Deere Awosika, and Major General Olaniyi, among others.
