Existing and potential domestic and foreign investors in the Nigerian capital market have further been assured of the safety of their investments as the right corporate governance structure and rules have been put in place to protect investors generally in the market.

The assurance was given last week by the President of Association of Assets Custodians of Nigeria (AACN), Mr. Segun Sanni and his counterpart at the Association of Corporate Trustees (ACT), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sanni, while speaking at the inauguration   of  new executive  members of  the Capital Market Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CAMCAN) in Lagos.

The AACN president, who urged investors to take advantage of the current investment opportunities, said the regulatory frameworks have been put in place to ensure the safety of funds brought in by investors for the purpose of investing in the Nigerian financial markets.

“As the President of AACN, a   body that is fully committed to championing reform processes targeted at benchmarking the Nigerian securities market to global standards in all areas of operations and market practice, I am urging investors to take advantage of the investment opportunities without the fear of losing their money.   We have the right professionals in the market while the necessary regulatory frameworks  are in place to ensure   smooth investment in our markets,” he said.

Sanni disclosed that as part of   efforts to expose the investment opportunities in Nigeria beyond  our shores,  AACN last month, had  an investors’  conference in London, United Kingdom,  which focused on  issues such as investor confidence, processes, infrastructure, products, governance, regulations and market developments.

“The conference was used to build foreign portfolio investors’ confidence in our market and provide a platform for foreign investors to network with Nigerian capital market regulators and operators with particular focus on custodians, fund managers, broker dealers, regulators,” Sanni said.

In her comments, the ACT president noted that   as   operators who ensure investors’ funds are preserved, members of the association have been  working with other stakeholders to play that role efficiently in the market.
