CSR: Lafarge Rewards Sagamu Community with N85m Projects

The Lafarge Cement WAPCO gave back to the Sagamu community area of Ogun State with developmental projects worth N85 million as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the community.

Among the valuable developmental projects donated by the cement company was the donation of Science laboratory equipment and materials to 18 public secondary schools in Shagamu local government area, medical equipment, as well as working tools for the local security force, Vigilante group among others.

The project also covered salient areas such as security, education, youth empowerment, health, environment as well as basic infrastructure among others.

Meanwhile, people of the Shagamu Community vowed that it would continue to give the needed understanding that will create enabling environment for Lafarge Cement WAPCO to operate profitably in the community.
The community, under the aegis of Shagamu Community Development Council (SCDC), gave the assurance during 2012 CSR Day held in Shagamu which featured presentation of bursary awards for 72 indigent students of the community.

In his welcome address, the chairman of SCDC, Mr. Michael Oyedele, described Lafarge WAPCO's presentation of the developmental projects as the essence of well-structured and collaborative CSR.

At the presentation however, Lafarge feted its host community with developmental projects which worth N85 million.

Speaking at the event, which also had in attendance, the Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Michael Sonariwo and all other traditional rulers in Remoland, the MD/ CEO of Lafarge, Mr. Joe Hudson, charged recipients and beneficiaries of the projects to make successful use of different opportunities provided by the projects to engage on journey of self-development.
Hudson further charged that beneficiaries should develop the willingness to learn and be accountable for their actions always, "bearing in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any support you have received".

The SCDC chairman, Oyedele however, assured listeners that the host community would always strive for continuous improvement of the existing relationship between it and Lafarge Cement WAPCO.
