D’Banj and Don Jazzy

NIGERIAN SHOWBIZFLAIR

Words going round in the entertainment industry are pointing towards an alleged rift between the President of Mo’Hits Music, Don Jazzy and its Vice President, D’Banj. SBF digs in further

Tale has it that super star musician, D’Banj (Dapo Oyebanji) and Don Jazzy (Michael Enebeli) of Mo’Hits Music are on the edge of calling off their relationship due to some irreconcilable differences. The relationship was said to have started nose-diving following the deal signed with Kanye West’s record label, G.O.O.D music. Sources disclosed that the terms of the agreement are far more in favour of Don Jazzy, who was signed as an in-house producer, a development which allegedly didn’t go down well with D’Banj.

A source in the Mo’Hit camp revealed that Don Jazzy is the only artiste signed to the label (G.O.O.D Music) and has already produced a track on the new joint album involving Kanye West and Jay-Z (Watch the Throne).

The source further disclosed that the crack in their relationship nearly became obvious early in the year when the two didn’t give a uniform response to the removal of subsidy. D’Banj came under fire from Nigerians for his perceived indifference to the fuel subsidy removal and Occupy Nigeria protests.

He later dismissed the criticism, saying that he was busy shooting the video of “Oliver Twist” at the time the protests broke out. Don Jazzy quickly identified with the masses chiding President Goodluck Jonathan on his twitter account. He blamed himself for voting/supporting the Jonathan candidacy.

Further allegations were that Don Jazzy has since moved out of the mansion they once shared in Lekki Phase 1 and is currently putting up with Dr Sid at the 1004 Flats on Victoria Island. The tale bearers maintained further that D’Banj’s new lifestyle has become unmanageable for Don Jazzy while D’banj on his part sees the producer as the reason why his album is yet to be released.

Other acts on Mo’Hits records like K-Switch, Dr. Sid, D’Prince and Wande Coal have been totally mute over the tale as phone calls didn’t go through and text messages sent to the manager, Sunday Aare, were neither delivered.

According to sources, “Things are so bad now that there are many shows that D’Banj does where he fails to remit any money to Mo’hits. He (D’Banj) accuses Don Jazzy of being too laid back and not attending meetings and negotiations but still feels entitled to collect fifty percent.  D’Banj and his brother, K-Switch are the only occupants of the Lekki Mansion after Don Jazzy moved out.

Unconfirmed reports however say that the crack is becoming so noticeable and that D’Banj will be launching his own record label which will have himself and his brother, K-Switch on it. But contrary to the reports, Media Image Managers, the publicist to the music clan, refuted the claims and termed it as mere rumour that cannot be substantiated.

In the words of their publicist: “Media Image Managers, MIM, is unaware of the alleged rift between D'banj and Don Jazzy you detailed in your enquiry. We have always known that the two great artistes enjoyed (still enjoys) a wonderful working relationship personally and professionally.

In the age of Internet revolution, every Nigerian has become a journalist and as such could post anything on his twitter, Facebook accounts and or blogs. There was a time, D'banj and Don Jazzy were in Lagos yet the Internet was awash with their 'arrest' in New York for 'drugs' related offences. This may be another of such situation. However, MIM will let the public know in an official statement on this purported break up soon.”

  • The story should be true cos there is no smoke without fire. Big shame. Money has taken the better part of our humanity in this country. This two must be made to realize that they have become our ambassadors and not ordinary musicians. I am not judging but i see Dbanj as too brash and may have ignited the fire.
