Nigeria’s Sand Eagles are on course to retain the Copa Lagos beach soccer title when they take on six-time European champions Portugal this afternoon at the Eko Atlantic city. The Eagles emerged favourites for the title after they defeated Argentina 5-0 saturday. In the days second match, Lebanon shocked Portugal five goals to four and in the process dented the ambitions of the Iberians.

It was one-way traffic in yesterday’s game between Nigeria and Argentina from the moment Victor Tale opened the scoring in four seconds off a deflection to put Nigeria 1-0 up. Tale’s strike remains the fastest goal of the four-team tournament so far. The defeat means Argentina have failed to score a goal in the competition after being pummeled 4-0 by Portugal in the competition’s opening game.

Argentina will hope to redeem their image by beating Lebanon in today’s opening game. The Lebanese have proven to be a tough nut to crack in the tournament.
