Ahead of the scheduled National General Assembly of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo for the election of her national officers, strong indications emerged Friday that the exercise which is programmed to take place today may be marred by a major crisis following disagreements among members of the committee over whether or not to go ahead with the election.
While the chairman of the election committee, Chief Chris Asoluka insisted that the election must go on as planned, the secretary of the committee, Chief Richard Ozobu said the exercise had been put off and would be conducted next week Saturday.
Already several text messages originating from the two camps have been flying about either asking delegates to attend or not to attend, thereby creating a major air of uncertainty across the five south east states, as well as Rivers and Delta sates.
THISDAY checks revealed that already candidates for the election have purchased, filled and returned their forms to the committee. Two persons are said to be contesting for the position of the President-General which is zoned to Ebonyi state.
