In a bid to promote governance at the grassroots level, a group, the Campaign for Democracy (CD) South-East Region has urged the South-East governors to conduct local government election in their respective states. The statement jointly signed by the South-East Chairman of the group, Dede Uzor A. Uzor and the Secretary, Dr. Jerry Chukwuokolo, said was sad that till now some South-East governors have not deemed it fit to democratise and conduct local council elections to bring governance closer to the people.
According to CD, the worst of the states within the region is Anambra State that had not conducted local council polls for over nine years out of 14 years unabridged democratic rule in the country. “In Abia State, Abia governor had been playing seek and hide politics with the conduct of local government election, while his alleged excuse of the state not having sufficient funds to conduct the election is not only evil but wicked and condemnable. “
