Men suspected to be security operatives on Friday afternoon were alleged to have swooped on the Corporate Headquarters of African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) where they whisked away its Executive Director, Rev. David Ugolor.
The security operatives were said to have ordered that staff of the organisation be locked inside the one storey building and confiscated their telephone handsets to prevent them from having access to the outside world.
As soon as the news filtered into town, newsmen visited the office of ANEEJ where a white colour Hilux Pick up van with registration AG 837 SKN, Rivers State was seen stationed at the entrance of the premises.
Besides, two armed security operatives were seen manning the main entrance of the office ostensibly to prevent any of the staff from leaving the office.
As at press time, the whereabouts of Rev. Ugolor remained unknown, but ThisDay gathered that the plainclothes security operatives who allegedly stormed the Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) took him to the Edo State Police Command Headquarters where he was asked to make statement.
The security operative who arrested Ugolor did not state why he was being arrested. However; unconfirmed report disclosed he was being dragged to the Police to make statement over what he may know about the gruesome murder last May of the Principal Private Secretary of Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. Olaitan Oyerinde.
Rev. Ugolor, it was further gathered was alleged to be the one that dropped off Oyerinde the night he was killed by unknown gunmen in Benin City .
When contacted the Director of State Security Services (SSS) in charge of Edo State, Bello Bakori said he was not aware of the arrest of Rev. David Ugolor just as sources in the Edo state police command also claimed ignorance of the incident.
