Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State
Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has sought the assistance of the China-Africa Develop-ment Fund for the quick infrastructural development of the state.
This was the highlight of a meeting the governor had with officials of the CADFund on Monday in China in continuation of Aregbesola’s search for investments in the areas of agriculture, education and industrial growth for the state.
The governor, during the meeting, told officials of the Funding partner that Osun State in the South-West region of Nigeria is blessed with potentials which had however remained untapped.
The China-Africa Development Fund (“The CADFund”) is one of the eight measures introduced in 2006 by the Chinese President Hu Jintao Hu JinTao at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
It is a special fund set up to support Chinese business concerns to develop the cooperation with Africa and make inroad into the African markets.
Aregbesola listed vast agricultural potentials, solid minerals, tourism and culture and industrial growths as areas waiting for massive investments in the state.
In particular, the governor explained that Osun State is in dire need for skills acquisition by its army of unemployed youths whom he said had been rendered idle due to almost one decade of neglect and inertia on the part of the ruling elite.
He said the state is interested in development of vocational studies as a way of taking many youths off the job market, adding that part of the problems in Nigeria as a country is the army of unemployed graduates who have resorted to self-help through criminal engagements.
