Continental Broadcasting Services is set to launch TVC News, which was designed to be a 24-hour pan-African News channel.
A statement issued by the operators of the broadcasting station stated that the news channel, which will begin transmission this month, would also report events of other continents from the African point of view.
The statement noted that the channel would offer a fresh perspective on African and world events, thereby delivering to viewers the latest news in a fearless way with an African twist.
Chief Executive Officer of the company, Nigel Parsons, who was formerly Al Jazeera English boss, was quoted as saying that “for so long, issues concerning Africa and Africans have been overwhelmingly reported by the foreign media, which often, misrepresent the continent.

“I believe that TVC News cutting-edge reporting and programming will fill an important void by serving as a voice for Africa and Africans on the street to be heard on the global scene, challenging stereotypes, correcting factual inaccuracies and re-shaping global perceptions about Africa,” said Nigel.

He further stated that TVC News would provide accurate and reliable access to information about Africa and the opportunities that abound in the continent through its state-of-the-art equipment and a network of bureaux across Africa, Europe and the United States.
Commenting on the readiness to begin live transmission in February, the Public Relations Manager, CBS, Celestine Umeibe, added that over 350 staff members have been under intensive training since September 2012.

Umeibe noted that TVC News has also engaged the services of top broadcasters in the local market and a number of expatriates, Nigerians and Africans from the Diaspora.
