Sunshine Stars are to pocket an extra two million Naira for defeating ASO Chlef in a CAF Champions League tie in Algeria at the weekend.
One of the team's players said on arrival at Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos on Sunday morning that the team management promised the team cash based on their performance against ASO Chlef.
"The chairman of the club promised us cash if we won. He said we will get N500, 000 for each goal we score against ASO and another N1m if we win the game," the player told MTNFootball.com.
This cash gift is besides the regular bonuses the players will receive for recording a crucial away win in Africa’s foremost club competition.
The Akure outfit are now second in Group A with seven points, five points adrift of defending champions Esperance, who at the weekend again defeated fellow Tunisians Etoile du Sahel to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition. Etoile are on four points.
Sunshine Stars remain determined to become the second Nigerian club to be crowned African champions after they beat ASO Chlef in Algeria.
Enyimba won the foremost African club competition in 2003 and 2004 and Sunshine boosted their chances of marching into the semi-finals of this year’s tournament after they recorded a massive 2-1 win in Algeria on Friday night.
