Community Agenda for Peace, a nongovernmental organization will today be organizing beach marathon as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 52nd anniversary. The event is also meant to be an advocacy scourge of ocean erosion along Lagos shorelines.
According to the national coordinator of Community Agenda For Peace, CAP, Barrister Obuesi Phillips, “the campaign is a tripod of activities with the main being the hosting of the first Lagos Beach Marathon which is designed as an annual event to drive tourism development, at the same time celebrating the country’s independence anniversary while also urging Nigerian leaders to acquaint themselves with the many ecological crisis confronting the nation.”
The competition is open to youths in Lagos and as at Monday 64 people have registered on line. Free T-shirts will be supplied to participants by the organizers and winners will cart home fantastic prizes.
Sponsors of the event RLG Communications Nigeria Limited will be presenting winners with cash prizes and high quality mobile phones which have been handed over to the organizers.
The starting point is set for Alpha Beach and terminate at Lekki Beach.
