Sunshine Stars
The Nigeria Football Federation has congratulated Sunshine Stars FC of Akure for its progress into the semi finals of this year’s CAF Champions League.
The ambitious boys of Governor Olusegun Mimiko were catapulted into the last four of the most lucrative club competition in the continent following Monday’s ejection of Etoile du Sahel of Tunisa from the group stage by the Confederation of African Football.
CAF threw out the respected Tunisian outfit following immense crowd trouble in their clash with Tunisian rivals Esperance Sportive du Tunis in Sousse penultimate weekend.
“I am delighted at the progress of Sunshine Stars FC, and we will do everything to encourage the club to reach the final and go for the trophy. It is a very prestigious trophy and it is a long time that we won it. It is time that we win again,” said NFF President Aminu Maigari.
Sunshine Stars were on their way to the semi finals anyway, following the defeat of ASO Chlef of Algeria in Chlef in their last match and with a home tie against Etoile du Sahel in their final match of the group phase.
Now, the Akure boys will play Cup holders Esperance in Tunis this weekend for top place in the group.
