Following the hint by Governor Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State in December 2012 of an imminent cabinet shake up, the reshufflement is set to take place as soon as the State House of Assembly concludes the screening of the nine nominees sent to it by the governor.

After Aliyu said there would be a cabinet reshuffle, anxiety gripped most of the political appointees including those who were seen to be closer to the governor.

Government activities were being carried out with fear, uncertainty, insecurity and desperation to retain their positions as the governor had instructed all the commissioners to prepare their handing over notes.

The nominees are Mr. Daniel Clifford Shasher, the current Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Head of Service (HoS), Alhaji Ibrahim Matane and the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the governor, Mohammed Kuta Yahaya, the self-assumed strong man of Governor Aliyu's administration.

Others are the one-time Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Umar Nasko, the Director General of the Directorate of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Dr. Joshua Bawa, Moh'd Bashar Nuhu and Abdullahi Mamman.

Two serving Permanent Secretaries, Abbas Bello and Mahmoud Kpako Bello also made the list of the nominees.
At the plenary session yesterday, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Adamu Usman, read the two page letter dated  February 12, 2013 and personally signed by the governor to members requesting for the screening and confirmation of the nine nominees.

The governor in the letter also requested the approval of the Assembly to enable him appoint six additional Special Advisers in accordance with the provisions of section 196 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Appealing to the Assembly to expedite action on his requests, Aliyu said this would enable him to fulfill section 14 of the Constitution as it affects the composition of the state Executive Council.
