 Comrade Abdulwahed Omar, NLC President

The parley between the Federal Government and organised labour, expected to work out a truce that will end the strike that has paralysed the country the last one week following the removal of fuel subsidy, is scheduled to hold at 6pm Saturday evening at the Conference Room of the First Lady’s Office.

The meeting is holding after the Executive Councils of both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) meet to brief the expanded body on the outcome of the meeting the leaders held with government Thursday and what action to take next.

Although no concrete decisions were announced after Thursday’s meeting, both sides did concede that concessions had been made by both of them.

However, should an agreement be reached this evening, Labour, which put the strike on hold for the weekend to enable protesters rest and restock, will most likely announce the full suspension of the strike action.

  • There is nothing to negotiate. The demand of Nigerians remain that FG should revert to 65 Naira and negotiate the pricing for the downstream sector. If the FG has sound argument, why are they afraid to discuss this clear fraud going on in NNPC. NLC & TUC, please do not disappoint Nigeria. This is our chance to stop this madness that has gone on for so long. Any decision that will make us start this discussion sometime again in the near future will mean that we have failed

  • Dialogue is the only way forward! I am praying for the success of the meeting today;continuation of the strike action will only continue to inflict huge damage to an already fragile economy. My suggestion is for the strike to be called off by the unions today, even if the parties are not able to agree on all issues;"dialogue is a continuing process"!!! May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the problem with this country. A parley holding in the first lady's conference room when even the office of the first lady is not suppose to be in the first place. Only God knows how much of the tax payers' money is budgeted for that illegal office

  • I am constrained to speak out when it has become apparent that silent is not golden in this situation whereby GEJ has displayed arrogant of power by walking out of the meeting with organized NLC forgetting that the NLC is the symbol of the masses that gave him the mandate.

  • The executive arm of the government of Nigeria has no choice but to step down on it's high horse and forge a parley with the NLC and co.
The show of outright stupidity by the exec is overwhelming, it clearly shows the executive arm is incompetent to govern the nation as it is.
In the first place what manner of subsidy is anyone talking about? This is a fallacy, a make believe issue!
Repair the refineries let Nigerians buy the locally refined by-product, sell our crude to OPEC or who it want to sell to. At least we don't have to make do with very low grade crude by-products. For one we are made to buy cheap fuel at the same price of a premium fuel.

  • NLC/TUC you are not going there to resolve GEJ and wife problem, therefore it's wrong of you to accept to hold meeting with government in the madam's parlow. Remember, the eyes of Nigerians masses are on you. We have gone a long way to our freedom from the hands of greedy leaders, don't disappoint us please.
