Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola
The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has assured the international community that Nigeria will emerge stronger from its current challenges given the determination of its leaders to make the nation work.
Oyinlola made the assertion in London on Monday, in a lecture entitled: “Nigeria’s Democracy and National Development”, which he delivered at the Portcullis House of the British Parliament.
He said the basic step towards entrenching an enduring democratic culture would be for the citizenry to support the on-going review of Nigeria’s constitution to take into account differences and realities of the constituents as well as reconcile opposing interests.
Oyinlola, who was the guest lecturer at the event, which was organised by BEN Television, London added that federalism as currently practised by the nation needed to be revisited while questions on the north-south dichotomy must be properly addressed in Nigeria’s march to progress.
According to him, “Nigeria will forge ahead and come out of its current travails stronger, no matter the antics of some peole who, by their actions and utterances have shown beyond reasonable doubts that they are prepared to drag the nation towards precipice for selfish reasons.”
Declaring that all hope was not lost, Oyinlola stated that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, supported by very great patriots were taking concerted steps to arrest the disturbing trend of security breaches through dialogue and placing national interests above individual and primordial sentiments and called for the support and cooperation of Nigerians, including the western world in Nigeria’s deep commitment to combating security breaches.
