Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, has called for continuous change of tactics in the ongoing efforts to find a lasting solution to terrorist activities in the country, especially the menace of the Boko Haram sect.
Moro stated this Tuesday when the Women’s Wing Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter visited him in his office in Abuja.
The minister, who condemned the attack on St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kaduna State, expressed regret that groups such as Boko Haram were using the name of religion to inflict harm on innocent Nigerians.
He said: “Only last week we experienced yet another of those ugly sides of some misguided Nigerians in the attack of a church in Kaduna. These are people who ordinarily have misinterpreted and misrepresented their faith in God. And believe that by killing themselves and killing other people they are fulfilling God’s will.
“This is outright distortion of faith in God. Because of forms of worship, weather it is Christianity or Islam preaches peace and love with one another.”
The minister assured that President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration was working to overcome the security challenge and called on all Nigerians to endeavour to work together for the unity and peaceful co-existent of the country.
“Today, this administration is presently determined more than ever before to ensure that efforts will be made to mitigate the consequences of conflicts in our land of suicide bombings and sectarian crisis.
“At the same time, we want to continue to invite those misguided elements in our community to tread the path of wisdom by embracing the olive branch of the present administration in the true spirit of democracy to continue to dialogue with Nigerians so that together we will remain very strong as a nation and together we can find solutions to the series of problems that confront us as a nation,” he advised.
“I invite all of you great mothers and Christians of Nigeria to join hand with this present administration to get to the root of this present crisis that is rocking this country and ensure that we play our roles in controlling the consequences of these conflicts.
“As mothers, I believe that you owe this country a responsibility of ensuring that this crisis does not take any firm root at all in our lives. You are the first and primary contact of children of Nigeria. You have the task of ensuring that you assume your rightful position of guiding the children on the virtues of good neighbourliness and living in peace with one another,” he advised.
Earlier, the WOWICAN Chairperson, Mrs. Philo Uche, had assured the minister that the Christian women would continue to pray for the peace and security of the nation as well intercede for the leadership of the country.
