Members of the Boko Haram sect Tuesday killed at least six park rangers in a reprisal attack after troops backed by helicopter gunships destroyed their base in a Nigerian game reserve.

This came as pandemonium broke out again Tuesday in Plateau State when an Army Corporal angrily shot and killed a Police Inspector in Mikang Local Government Area of the state.

Security forces last week killed 17 militants and destroyed two Boko Haram training camps in the North-east, one in a forest and one in the Sambisa Reserve.

The officer in charge of the Sambisa Reserve, Hassan Malgwi, said gunmen believed to be Boko Haram attacked the staff camp after midnight.
"Six people were killed. Many of our staff are still missing as the camp is now deserted," he said.

Neither the military nor Boko Haram were available for comment.
Violence has persisted since a Boko Haram commander declared a ceasefire last week, raising doubts about his credibility.

President Goodluck Jonathan has highlighted links between Boko Haram and Saharan Islamists, including al-Qaeda's North African affiliate, as a reason for joining efforts by French and West African forces to fight them in Mali.

An eyewitness said the duo had engaged in a hot argument that lead to exchange of blows at about 12:30pm.

The witness said in the course of the fight, their colleagues intervened, separated them and also settled them.
But the Army personnel, obviously not pacified with the plea from his colleagues, went ahead to shoot the police inspector.

The eyewitness said: “It all started with argument, and later it led to a fight. But we all jointly separated them and pleaded with them to bury the hatchet. And after that, we left the scene and went away. But we were shocked when after about thirty minutes, we heard the sound of gunshots and on getting there we met that the policeman was shot by the Army corporal.”

He identified the deceased as Inspector Dou, but restrained from giving the name of the corporal.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP John Omuogbo, said an argument ensued between the two which led to the killing.

He said the corporal has been arrested and would be arraigned after investigations are completed.
He called on the people of the area to remain calm and not to take the laws into their hands.
