Gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect Friday shot dead a lecturer at one of the higher institutions of learning in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The killing of the lecturer is coming on the heels of an alert by the Joint Task Force (JTF) that the infamous religious fundamentalists are planning to attack Maiduguri and environs in vehicles painted in military colours.
Family sources of Kayode Lawal, who was a lecturer at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim College of Education Maiduguri, said two suspected members of the Boko Haram sect sneaked into the residence of their victim, at the now notorious Abbaganaram ward within the Maiduguri metropolis in the early hours of the day and shot him severally.
The source said: “He didn’t know the men that invaded his house were his assailant. In fact, he was set to engage them in argument but had to keep mute when he saw them pulling out their guns."
