Following the political crisis rocking the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, President Goodluck Jonathan made an unscheduled visit to the state over the weekend, to steady the rocking political boat of
the state.

The President contrary to his resolve not to interfere in the political affairs of the state yesterday ordered members of the Assembly to revert to status quo by returning Friday Kumbowei Benson as the Speaker of the Assembly. The 16 members of the Assembly involved in the controversial impeachment of the speaker bowed to the presidential pressure and indicated readiness to reverse action and return to status quo.

Meanwhile, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has described the impeachment controversy as a huge
embarrassment to the people and the independence of the Legislature in the state.

The ACN in a statement by its National Youth Leader, Mr. Ebikibina Miriki, described the impeachment crisis rocking the state House of Assembly as a monumental embarrassment to the state and the people. “The controversial impeachment saga among members of the state House of Assembly is the most unfortunate and a monumental embarrassment to the state. “The lawmakers who are expected to make and enact laws that will better the lives and growth of the people are busy wasting their precious time fighting themselves over alleged expected financial benefits,” the party stated.
