Football action at the Bankers' Games

Matches of Week 3 of the Nigeria Bankers Games (NBG) produced a mixed bag of results with Union Bank and First Bank the only teams that collected all three points in their matches on a day Fidelity Bank drew their second game and the star match between UBA and Standard Chartered Bank ended nil all.

First Bank took only 36 seconds to go in front against Diamond Bank when Oluwatosin Faniyi nodded off a goalkeeping blunder committed by Chigaemezu Anokwu while Oloniyo Oluwaseun scored the second to take the game beyond the Paschal Dozie Boys.

But it was the Stallions Boys of Union Bank that were the revelation of the week as they stunned Stanbic-IBTC to claim the three points at stake and move up on the Group log with four points behind leaders, Skye Bank.

Coming from their opening game 0-0 draw against Enterprise Bank, the Stallion Balls took little time to establish control of the game with Anthony Ibukun opening the scores on the 8th minute. The lead was doubled on the 17th minute through Shina Lawal but Augustus Nwachukwu pulled one back for Stanbic from the penalty spot on 42nd minute.

Gabriel Udeme of Union back bagged his second MVP Award in as many games.

Fidelity Bank failed to take advantage of their higher rating in their game against Enterprise Bank that perhaps were buoyed by the presence of three senior Management Staff in the persons of the Executive Director, Risk Management, Loisa Olaloku, Head of Corporate Services, Olusola Longe Okenimkpe,  and Head, Projects Services, Fatai Tella.

Fidelity Bank’s goal by Tunde Rufai was cancelled out by a response by Tunde Adeniyi while Taiwo Adeyemo of Enterprise Bank was named the MVP.

In the last match of the day, UBA and Standard Chartered Bank settled old scores on equal keel with Rilwan Adewusi named MVP following his sustained raid on the opponents.
