Nigerian international, Izu Azuka
Nigerian international, Izu Azuka, has stressed the need for radical changes in the Nigeria Premier League if players who excelled in the Super Eagles are to maintain their form when they return to their respective clubs.
Kano Pillars’ Reuben Gabriel, who was voted Man-of-the-Match against Rwanda, Sharks’ Juwon Oshaniwa, Sunshine Stars captain, Godfrey Oboabana, Warri Wolves central defender, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Enugu Rangers winger, Ejike Uzoenyi and Enyimba’s Uche Kalu were impressive as the Eagles played matches in the Afcon qualifiers and Brazil 2014 World Cup.
Others like Azuka (Sunshine Stars), Papa Idris (Kano Pillars) and Chigozie Agbim (Warri Wolves) were also part of the programme under Eagles supremo, Stephen Keshi.
“The Nigerian League has great players, but people will only appreciate our efforts when things are well organised.
“It’s important to boost security and officiating. The league has to be repaired for fans to appreciate the effort of NPL stars in the Eagles. I’ve played in North Africa and know what obtains there,” Azuka told SuperSport.com.
The former Sharks playmaker had spells in North Africa with Algeria’s JS Kabylie and Libya’s Al-Ittihad.
