Bayelsa State Government has inaugurated a Post-Flood Management Committee with a mandate to mobilise all available resources towards the rehabilitation of flood victims and rebuilding the critical infrastructure destroyed by the flood.

Governor Seriake Dickson, who inaugurated the committee chaired by the former National Security Adviser (NSA), General Andrew Owoye Azazi (rtd), in Yenagoa, charged them to solicit support both within and outside the state, considering the fact that the magnitude of the flood was beyond the state and Federal Government.

According to him, 90 per cent of the state with its critical infrastructures such as roads and bridges were completely ravaged.

While appealing to public-spirited individuals and organisations for more support, Dickson assured that government would make judicious use of whatever assistance that comes its way.

The governor, who commended his deputy and members of the Emergency Response Management Committee for their efforts in handling the flood crisis, explained that the post-flood committee was constituted to temporarily free government officials from active involvement in the flood management process so that they can attend to their normal duties.

Dickson also lauded Bayelsans and security agencies for their support, resilience and show of understanding throughout the period of the disaster.

Responding, Azazi expressed appreciation to Dickson for the confidence reposed in them.

Describing the task ahead of them as herculean, Azazi pledged the committee’s determination to work diligently to achieve set goals.

The 16-man committee has a Director in the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), as secretary.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the N500 million draft by Dr. Mike Adenuga Jnr.  to the chairman of the Post-Flood Committee.
