Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah
Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, may be docked for alleged contempt of orders of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.
The court had ordered the minister or her agent not to disrupt activities of the Airports Car Hire Association of Nigeria.
In a letter to the minister, counsel to the association, Sepribo Peters, alleged that the Minister, through her agents, was violating the terms of the orders of the court.
According to Peters, “By the terms and tenor of the orders of the courts that are attached to your office, agents, servants, privies, howsoever described, are under a constitutional obligation to maintain the status quo ante bellum as previously ordered by the Federal High Court to the effect that the operation of airport car hire services shall be maintained pending the determination of the appeal before the Court of Appeal which is still subsisting.”
He stated further that although there had been compliance with that order and discussions were held with the then Minister of Aviation now Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, as to how the issues that gave rise to the suit and the order of the Court of Appeal would be resolved.
He noted that the association was surprised when some officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria(FAAN), acting on the instruction Deputy Director (Safety and Security) in the Ministry of Aviation, resolved status quo ante belleum as ordered by the Court of Appeal in relation to the operation of airport car hire services shall not be maintained again.
“Madam we are surprised at this instruction at this stage of our democracy wherein even the Presidency obeys court orders,” he added.
