As Taraba Distributes Presidential Relief Materials

Smiles saturday returned to the faces of victims of the recent flood disaster in Taraba State as the state government commenced distribution of relief materials to the affected communities.

The materials, ranging from food items, building materials, beddings, cooking utensils, fishing materials as well as farm implements and other home appliances were procured with the N400million released to the state by the Federal Government as palliative to the victims.
The distribution of the relief materials, which was flagged off at Lau in Lau Local Government Area was conducted by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Secretary of the SEMA, Mr. James Inuwa Abama,  who represented the Executive Secretary, Mr. Novelda Dan Abu,  told newsmen that over 76 people were affected by the flood in eight Local Government Areas of the state, adding that most of the victims were rendered homeless while several others lost their farmlands and crops to the disaster.

Chairman of the Committee set up by the state government to handle the utilization of the funds released by the Federal Government and Commissioner for Agriculture in the state, Deacon Anthony Jellason, and other members of the committee including the state Commissioner of Information, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, as well as the Chairman of the state Planning Commission, Elder D.D. Elisha monitored the distribution of the materials.

Addressing pressmen at Kunini in Lau Local Government Area, Deacon Anthony Jellason, enjoined the victims not to see the relief materials as compensation for the loss they’ve have suffered but rather as a palliative measure aimed at cushioning the effect of the flood on them.
