Sixty-three suspects arrested at Ozanogogo, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, in connection with the abduction of Prof. Kamene Okonjo, Queen of Ogwashi-Uku and mother of Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, by men of the 4th Mechanised Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Benin City were Tuesday released.
The suspects who had been in the custody of the army since their arrest, were seen this morning at the premises of the army barracks, preparing to go home.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the 4th Brigade, Captain Rose Managbe, who confirmed the release of the suspects at her office, disclosed that the Dien of Agbor, Keagborekuzi, sent three chiefs to sign as surety for their release.
Managbe also debunked the allegations that the detainees had to pay for their food while in detention, and that some had to pay the sum of N70, 000 each to secure their release.
Leader of the Dein delegation, Chief Gideon Okobia, also confirmed to journalists that the monarch sent them to secure the release of the detainees.
