The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) led by the National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, has said that the former Minister of Health, Dr. Tim Menakaya, is no longer a member of the party’s Board of Trustees ( BoT). The party said Menakaya had ceased to be a member of the party’s BoT, having served in that position for a maximum period of eight years (two terms) beginning from January 11, 2005 to 2013.

In the same vein, the party in a letter signed by the National Secretary, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, asked two members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, the National Women Leader, Mrs. Ella Nwabueze and the National Publicity Secretary, Benard Akoma, to resign their posts, having taken up political appointments in government.

In what seemed like political vendetta, Shinkafi said the officers who are known loyalists of the Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, have been notified of the party’s decision to withdraw their membership of the party’s NWC in accordance with the APGA constitution. A letter dated January 23, 2013, addressed to Dr. Menakaya and signed by APGA’s National Secretary, Alhaji Sani Abdulahi Shinkafi, thanked the former member of the BoT and wished him well in his future endeavours.

He said the constitution of the party provides that a trustee shall hold office for a period of four years and shall be eligible for another term of four years thereafter. According to the letter, Menakaya has served out the mandatory eight years as enshrined in the party’s constitution.

The letter read: “Please recall that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of APGA at its meeting of January 11, 2005, appointed you a member of the Board of Trustees of our great party. Pursuant to the provisions of Article 10(o) of our party Constitution which states as follows:

“A trustee shall hold office for a period of four years and shall be eligible for renewal for another four year term thereafter” “Having served as a member of our Board of Trustees for a period of eight years as at 11th January, 2013 representing two terms as provided for in the party constitution, you are hereby notified that your membership of the Board of Trustees of our great party has lapsed on the 11th day of January, 2013.

Accordingly you are requested to be so notified. We thank you for your services to the party and wish you well in your future endeavors” Shinkafi added. In the letter to Nwabueze, Shinkafi said, “Following your appointment and assumption of office as a Special Adviser to Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State in 2012, you are hereby notified of your deemed resignation as the National Women Leader of our great party.

“Your deemed resignation is in line with Article 25(6) of our party’s constitution which prevents officers of the party from holding dual offices as follows: subject to the provision of this constitution which says, any member holding a party office at any level shall be deemed to have resigned that position if he assumes any of the following offices, commissioner and special advisers” he added.
