The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim and Managing Director of the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), Mr. Uche Orji, have expressed their readiness to participate at this year's South-east Economic Forum scheduled to hold later this month.
A statement signed by the Group Secretary, Mr. Amaechi Agboeze, said that the SGF and SWF boss have confirmed their participation at the summit which takes place from October 29 to 31 at the Nike Lake Resort, Enugu, Enugu State.
According to Agboeze, Anyim the Chief Guest of Honour will address the Summit on "Enhancing Policy Synergy between States and the Federal Government" while SWF boss, Orji, will deliver the keynote address on the theme of the Summit: "Opening up the South-east Nigeria for Increased Trade and Investment."
Catholic Theologian and Executive Director, Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace, Prof. Obiora Ike, will chair the grand finale hosted on the last day of the summit by the five governors of the South-east states.
According to the Chairman of the central planning committee of the summit, Chief Chris Obiefuna, the star attraction of this year’s summit will involve a team of technical experts from Canada, which he said had confirmed their participation at the summit.
He said they would mount special demonstrations of how to translate theories and intellectual ideas into products and practical action.
"Eric Germain of Geo-Xergy Systems and Ibrahima Diallo of GPES Inc. will demonstrate how to convert solid wastes from landfills into viable sources of clean, sustainable energy for communities and institutions while Prof. Alphonsus Utioh and Dr. Paulyn Appah of the Food Development Centre will showcase food product development and processing techniques for local commercial production and consumption,” he said.
Obiefuna said other resource persons who have confirmed their participation in the summit include: Mr. Emeka Nwawka, CEO, Orient Petroleum Resources; Mr. Johnson Chukwu, a finance expert and CEO, Cowry Asset Management Ltd, Lagos; Dr. Mrs. Joy Ezeilo, Founder/CEO, WACOL, Enugu; Prof. Chinyere Okunna, Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Anambra State.
According to him, over 200 eminent persons of the South-east have sent in their written confirmation of participation in the summit including elder statesman and Doyen of Ndigbo, Chief Bob Ogbuagu; former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Dr. Ada Okwuonu.
"With the wave of confirmations of participation and the unique packaging, the 2013 South-east Economic Summit is expected to draw over 1,500 participants for the three days and produce practical results that will boost trade and investment in the zone as well as generate business and technical partnerships between Nigerian and Canadian businessmen," he said.
