Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State

Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State on Wednesday, defended the position of the 36 states governors on the rejection of the last month statutory grants from the federation account owing to illegal deductions by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the State Peer Review Mechanism (SPRM) held in Government House, Minna, Aliyu said the decision that had been taken by the governors to correct anomalies in the system was in the overall interest of Nigerians.

“Most of the issues that you see us taking positions in which many people (elites in particular) are not happy about were issues that needed to be corrected," the governor stated.
