Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State has alerted Nigerians of the plot to destabilise the state, with the hope of stopping the progressive train moving across the state.

In a statement issued in Minna Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo, Aliyu alluded to a plan being hatched by some highly placed individuals in the state, which he said involved using opposition elements to peddle falsehood about his administration.

He said the recent justifiable reverses suffered by those who took undue advantage of the past administration, have so scared them into seeking all manners of ways to make his administration ungovernable.

The governor said negative publications and press conferences are being sponsored by those who have become threatened by his successes in office, stressing that such publications are aimed at damaging his reputation and that of the state government.

“We are astounded at how low some politicians can sink by employing downright lies and irresponsible tactics just to create the impression that things are not working.

“The government of Niger State condemns this cheap blackmail, being used as a last joker by drowning politicians who will clutch at anything, including mere straws, to remain relevant.

“But we are undaunted because the people of Niger State are very discerning. And in the fullness of time, the lies and those behind them will be exposed,” the statement said.

Aliyu said he would remain committed to his present assignment and would not be distracted by antics of politicians whose stock in trade is blackmail.
He cautioned media practitioners to be wary of persons who may want to use their outfits for selfish gains.
