The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), has canvassed for the autonomy of the third tier of government in the country arguing that it was in the best interest of all to do so.

National President, Mr. Nwabueze Okafor, Friday told State House correspondents, stated that: “I think what we need is understanding because the autonomy of local government councils has been in the national discourse and people are  now beginning to understand the need to have a very virile and robust system of local administration in the country.”

Okafor who was in the State House to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan, explained that:  “The governors are beginning to appreciate that because in the last three months, we have had about three or four local government elections across the federation unlike what was obtainable in the past when most of the councils were being run by all sorts of transition or make shift arrangement.
