The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has flayed the recent attack on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, by suspected Islamic fundamentalists group, popularly called Boko Haram.

Adeyemi, who spoke with journalists in his palace shortly after playing host to the Ondo State members of Council of Obas and Chiefs, said the Emir of Kano was never known to be a controversial traditional ruler and did not deserve such attack from any group whatsoever.

The Ondo State traditional rulers, comprising Deji of Akure, Olowo of Owo and Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Adebiyi Adegboye Adesida, Oba  Folagbade Olateru~Olagbegi and Oba Victor Kiladejo respectively were on sympathy visit to the Oyo monarch over the recent fire incident during which part of his ancient palace got burnt.

Alaafin extolled the virtues of Bayero, who alongside his two children were wounded during the attack, lamenting that if an Emir of Bayero status could not move freely in his community, then nobody is safe in the country.

Oba Adeyemi also expressed worries over the level of attention being paid to security matters in the country, recalled the ambush laid for the contigent of the Nigerian soldiers going on a peacekeeping mission Mali during which three soldiers were reportedly killed.
According to Alaafin, “this is embarrassing as the attackers were not said to have been apprehended, yet, the attack which could not have lasted less than 15 minutes or even more did not happen in thick forest. Such could not have taken place in the foreign countries.”

During the sympathy visit, Deji of Akure, Oba Adesida, who spoke on behalf of his brother Obas from the sunshine state said the purpose of the visit was to extend solidarity to Alaafin on the fire incident and to pray that such would not re-occur in any of the palaces of traditional rulers across the country.

Oba Adesida said the people of Yorubaland “are one, wherever they may be located” and used the occasion to preach peace among the people of Yorubaland, stressing that with peace, there would be development in the entire region as it is in the other parts of the country.
