Impressed by condition of facilities for the Eko 2012 National Sports Festival, the 36 states Directors of Sports, Secretaries and Technical Directors of the 25 national federations have commended the Lagos State government for its commitment to the championship.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the maiden joint technical meeting and signed by the Main Organising Committee (MOC) Secretary General, Abba Yola and his Local Organising Committee (LOC) counterpart, Dr Kweku Tandoh, the delegates however, charged the host to speed up renovation and repair works to ensure that the relevant venues and facilities are ready on schedule.

The officials further tasked MOC and LOC to harmonise the observations of the various federations.

For now, the group confirmed that 12 states – Akwa Ibom, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Kwara, Nasarawa, Ondo, Rivers, Kogi and host, Lagos have indicated their intention to participate in the championship.

It noted also that 11 states have registered the sports they intend to jostle at the multi-sports championship.

The five optional sports for the festival were also ratified at the meeting, while approving the inclusion of deaf sports.

To ensure fair officiating at the festival, the delegates approved that a technical study group should be put together to monitor officiating officials during the championship.
