In its inimitable style of offering unending fun to Nigerians through the theatre platform, the Performing Arts Workshop and Studio is set for the staging of its latest piece of theatrical delight, Rubiewe. The play, to be staged in collaboration with popular event centre, The Knot Centre in Yaba, Lagos, is billed for later this month.
Rubiewe is an African adaptation of the Beauty and the Beast, the enchanting fairy tale with different versions available across the world. In the case of Rubiewe, the same exactly might not be the case but the masterful performances of some plays put up by the Kenneth Uphopho-led Performing Arts Workshop and Studio, the excitement can only increase with each passing moment.
Set to feature the likes of Uzor Osimkpa, Paul Alumona, Tomi Odunsi, KC Ejelonu, Patrick Diabuah, Seun Kentebe, Sotonye Green, Damilola Kalejaiye as members of cast, the play consists of music and choreography to be provided by Deborah Ohiri and Odey McAnthony respectively.
With about four performnaces on schedule, Rubiewe is to be staged at The Knot Centre, in Yaba on Sunday, May 27 by 4.00 pm and at Terra Kulture on Monday, May 28 by 6.00 pm. The final performance will also hold at Terra Kulture on Tuesday, May 29 in the afternoon.
The theatre production house, one of the most active in town these days, just completed a run of plays like Eyiyemi Rogbinyin’s Oh, How Dearly I Detest Thee! and Wole Soyinka’s Child Internationale at Terra Kulture for April while other plays are on its list for the year yet.
