Former Super Eagles skipper, Nwankwo Kanu has issued a rallying cry for the nation to get behind the Super Eagles ahead of Friday’s crucial Nations Cup clash against Zambia.

Following the dying second equaliser by Burkina Faso in the opening Group C match on Monday, the outcome of Friday’s encounter has assumed added importance for both sides.
Incidentally, Zambia, defending champions, also conceded a late equaliser in their own opening match against Ethiopia to ensure the group is still very much wide open.

But Kanu, who is now a Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Football Ambassador, insisted that all hope was not lost as he was confident that the Eagles would deliver the goods Friday.

However, while conceding that the equaliser was caused by the inexperience of the youthful side, the former Arsenal star said this was all the more reason while the nation should get behind the boys.

“Football is not easy and we shouldn’t forget that the bulk of the players are making their first appearance at such a big stage. And from what I saw on Monday they did well.

“However, now that we’ve found ourselves in the situation we’re in it is only logical that we give them all the support we can for them to make us proud.”

Kanu, who said he had popped in to see the team’s training, said he was impressed with the determination shown by the players and was thus confident that at the end of the day it will be Nigeria and not Zambia that will be rejoicing.
