The Adamawa State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal has received 38 petitions following the local government elections conducted on November 24, 2012 in the state.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all 21 local government chairmanship seats with 207 councillorship positions.
Criticisms had trailed the conduct of the elections by the opposition parties especially the victory of the PDP in all the local government chairmanship seats and the majority of the councillorship seats in the state.
This led to the setting up of the tribunal to entertain the complaints of the aggrieved political parties who claimed that the election was not free and fair.
The tribunal Monday said it had receives 38 petitions from some political parties that participated in the polls.
The secretary of the tribunal, Mr. Hashimu Suleiman, made this known in Yola, adding that the National Conscience Party (NCP) filed 12 petitions while the rest were filed by the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
According to Suleiman, the petition comprised of 23 for chairmanship and 15 for councillorship, adding that the sitting on the cases had already commenced.
