Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Monday honoured the national leader of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Senator Bola Tinubu, with chieftaincy title of Aare Ago of Egbaland.
Also honoured alongside Tinubu was his wife, Oluremi, who was conferred with the title of Erelu Aare Ago of Egbaland.
Eminent Nigerians at the event included the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) presidential candidate in the April 2011 general election, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and former ACN presidential candidate at the same election, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Also present at the occasion were former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, ACN National Chairman, Bisi Akande; Senate Minority Leader, George Akume, House of Representatives Minority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila; as well as former governors of Lagos and Ogun States, Alhaji Lateef Jakande and Aremo Segun Osoba.
Aside from the sitting governors of Ondo and Edo States who were conspicuously absent at the event, the four other ACN governors from the South-west states also joined their colleague in Ogun, Ibikunle Amosun, to celebrate with the Tinubu family.
However, justifying the conferment of the title on Tinubu, the Alake described the former governor of Lagos State as a courageous fighter for democratic values, explaining that Tinubu fought irrepressibly for the protection of civic liberty in Nigeria.
In his remarks shortly after the conferment, the ACN national leader pledged that he would continue to support every developmental initiatives of Alake of Egbaland.
