Elders and stakeholders of the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ibadan, Oyo State yesterday met at the party’s zonal office and endorsed the state Governor, Abiola Ajimobi for another term from 2015.
The party stalwarts in control of 11 local government councils in Ibadan land said they took the decision in order to ensure continuity in governance.
The leaders also endorsed the governor as the leader of the party in the state.
The state Deputy Chairman of the party, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, who read the communique at the end of the meeting, said members in the 11 local government areas in Ibadan after the meetingpassed a vote of confidence on Ajimobi for his good performance in the last one and half years in office.
The party chieftain said since the demise of the former governor, Lam Adeshina, was no other person who has replaced him which made members of the party to endorse Ajimobi.
The communiqué was signed by 11 members representing different zones and council areas. They include Alhaji Isiaq Akeem, Alhaji Ganny Alade, Dr. Busari Adebisi, Hon. Oyeniran Oyeniyi, Hon. Awoleye Dada, Hon. Mojeed Olaoya, Alhaji Najeem Abbass, Chief Laoye Sam, Chief Ayo Eniade, Mrs Matel Williams, Chief Jamiu Adewale.
“Further, and in consonance with the tradition of our progressives predecessors and in consonance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, “We hereby unanimously adopt Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi as the sole candidate of our party in the eleven local government councils consisting Ibadan land as the gubernatorial candidate for 2015 governorship election in Oyo State.
“We equally pass a vote of confidence on our national leaders, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande (National Chairman) and the entire national executive of the ACN.”
Alimi appealed to the other five political zones in the state to emulate Ibadan zone.
In his response, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government, Alhaji Najeem Abbass, said the agreement was reached after series of meetings with the representatives from the 11 local government areas in Ibadan, adding that it was not too early to endorse the governor as their candidate bearing in mind his achievements in the past one year.
Abbass said: “Senator Abiola Ajimobi cannot be compared to any other governors the state has had in the past years because of the transformation the state has had in the last one and half years and we believe he will also be endorsed by other political zones.”
Also the chairman of the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), noted that the normal Ibadan jinx that no governor can be reelected would be broken during Ajimobi’s era because he has transform the state within a short time in office, adding that there was need for continuity in order to fully achieve his aspiration of reformation, transformation and repositioning of Oyo State to be the pacesetter state.
