The remains of the late literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe, would be laid to rest on May 23,  the Chairman of the South-east Governors' Forum and Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has said.

Obi made the disclosure at Government House in Enugu at the weekend, after a meeting of the South-east governors with the family of the late Achebe.

The governor who failed to disclose the detailed outcome of the meeting, however, stated that  they deliberated on security, burial of Achebe and the Enugu International Airport.

Also speaking with journalists, the first son of the late writer,  Ikechukwu Achebe, described his father as a good man who wished Nigeria well.

He recalled that his father’s last wishes was a Nigeria that would be free from corruption as well as a Nigeria that would live up to the expectations of its citizens.
The late Achebe’s first son thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for granting him an opportunity to meet with him and his support so far to the family.

He also expressed gratitude to the South-east governors for their support and special indication that his late father’s burial was an important event.

Governors Obi (Anambra), Martin Elechi (Ebonyi),  Theodore Orji (Abia) and Sullivan Chime (Enugu) attended the meeting while Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha was represented by his deputy, Eze Madumere.
