MOUKA FOAM

Mouka Limited, foremost manufacturers of mattresses, blankets and other bedding materials, has been in the vanguard of impacting the society in which it does business. Through various initiatives the Ikeja, lagos based company has demonstrated that doing business goes beyond profit considerations. Recently the company mobilized other corporate organizations to bring relief to victims of the flood disaster. Mouka donated bedding materials worth millions of Naira to the victims. For this singular act of benevolence some communities who benefited from Mouka’s gesture have sent a thank you message to the company for coming to their aid at such a critical moment.

It will be recalled that Mouka foam, in addition to its donation also offered100 free mattresses for every 1000 bought by the flood victims. This offer delivered a multiplier effect on the generous donations of concerned citizens and stretches the relief effort to cover more ground. In an environment that is hostile to manufacturers, a keen observer may note that this move on the part of Mouka is a significant act of courage and proof of genuine concern for the millions displaced by the flood.

Other corporate donors were Globacom, Guinness Nigeria Plc., Dangote Group, UBA Foundation among many others. Over N11 Billion were raised by these corporate giants at a fund raising dinner organised by the Presidential task force on flood Relief co-chaired by a corporate titan, Aliko Dangote and legal luminary Olisa Agbakoba to alleviate the sufferings of the victims of the disaster. The response of Corporate Nigeria demonstrated that Nigeria a passion to go beyond profit considerations to positively impact mankind in a most enduring manner.

In addition, the collaborative efforts of these corporate bodies further demonstrated that in the midst of the despair is refreshing in that it follows a positive trend in developed countries where multi-billion dollar companies, the military and civil society have honed their disaster management skills and are able to synchronise their aid machinery with that of the various governments to achieve rapid response and give instant succor to victims in terms of emergencies. One easily remembers how the United States government achieved a low mortality rate in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy as an example of clock-work like collaboration between States, Federal Government, and the military and private institutions.
