Abia State government has raised an alarm over alleged plans by a former governor of the state to use foul means to disrupt Saturday’s election in some parts of the state through the use of political mercenaries already smuggled into the state.

In a statement by Kingsley Emeruwa, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, the areas already pencilled for violence include Aba North and South, Ohafia, Arochukwu and Umunneochi local government areas.

Emeruwa insisted there was a devilish plot to use political mercenaries who would be issued with fake military uniforms to disrupt elections in these areas where those planning to sponsor this mayhem fear they would fail woefully.

Abia State government last week raised alarm over the importation of fake police uniforms by the mother of the former governor upon her return to the state from her nine-month self-imposed exile.

The Abia State Government, Emeruwa said, is warning all residents of the state especially voters to be vigilant and make sure their votes are not toiled with by anyone under whatever guise since their votes remain their power to choose their leaders.

According to Emeruwa,  “the Abia State Government is warning all desperate politicians in the state who are bent on subverting the will of the majority to desist from such acts or face the dire consequences of their intended actions. The election is a veritable ground to test the popularity or otherwise of every politician, hence all are in their own interest advised to obey the rules of the game.

“All law enforcement agents in the state are by this information requested to be on red alert, and to deal decisively with any person no matter how highly placed caught on the wrong side of the law. To be warned is to be armed.”
