Night life in the North has been crippled by the persistent bombings and killings of innocent people, former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar stated tuesday.

Abubakar said the dearth of night life in the North is destroying the economy and development in the region.
Speaking in Minna after his inauguration as the Chairman of the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai Endowment Fund Board of Trustees, Abubakar reminisced on the bubbling night life the North enjoyed in the past.

He said night life played a major part in the economy of the region lamenting that with the security challenges, the economy of the region has dwindled a lot.

The former Head of State said: “There is no town in the North where there is night life anymore. We all know the type of economy the North derived from its night life but now there is no more night economy in the North. This is not good for us and for our development.”
Appealing to individuals with grievances against the government to employ avenues where such issues could be discussed and resolved, the former Head of State said: “All these bombings and killings do not solve the problem. We should think about our children and grandchildren, what we have to lay for them if we destroy the little we have now.”

Abubakar solicited for peace during the yuletide period, saying, “I am appealing to Nigerians to maintain the peace of the nation as we celebrate the yuletide. For without peace, there can be no country.”

He promised that the Board of Trustees of the Endowment Fund will work to ensure that it realises the funds that will make the institution one to be reckoned with in the country and the world at large.

Inaugurating the Board of Trustees, Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, charged the Board to ensure that they look for fund to make the university world class and one to be reckoned with.

He stated that the reason for establishing the Endowment Fund Board of Trustees was to show the spirit of corporate social responsibility, give back to future generations and support the essence of quality and functional university education in the face of depreciating standard of public institutions among others.
