Sports Minister Bolaji Abdulahi has tasked the committee on National U-17 Youth Games to revitalize sports at all levels in the country.

The first edition of the youth games will hold in Calabar next year and is to create an alternative platform for the discovery of talent for the Open Festival which the National Sports Festival has now designed to replace the National Sports Festival.

The committee is to be headed by the Director of Grassroots Development National Sports Commission (NSC), Yakmut Alhassan.

The other members of the committee Caleb Gidado, Dr Kweku Tandoh, Dr  (Mrs) Stella Obioha, Peter Nelson, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Mrs Gloria Obajimi. Dr Demola Are, Tunde Abdulkareem, Grace Bako and Yemi Idowu make up the committee.

The operational objectives of the committee include the generation of a robust talent pool for Nigeria, establishment of the standard for generation of talent from one generation to another and the prevention of age cheats from having a presence at the games.

Yakmut, who described the assignment as a test of their reliability, said that the committee would operate within the context of the set objectives and count on event management approach and their experience in youth sports management to deliver.
