Governor  Rauf Aregbesola

A key leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria in Osun State was among over 500 members of the party who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party  on Thursday.
The defectors at a rally in Bode Osi, headquarters of Ola Oluwa Local Government, promised absolute loyalty and commitment to PDP , so that it could “rescue” the state from the ACN in the next general elections.

ACN chairman in Olaoluwa local government, Alhaji Kelani Adeleke, who led the defectors  said they left the party because the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola,  had hijacked the party, making it insensitive to the plight of the members and the people of the state.

A former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, who received the defectors said the event marked the beginning of the end of the ACN in the state.
He noted that the  entire people of the state were tired of the policies of the ACN administration in the state and that  other members of the ACN,   numbering about a  thousand were  on their way to declare for the PDP.

He said these ACN members had approached the PDP and had been  assured of the  readiness  of the party to accept them into the  fold.  Akinbade, who served in the cabinet  of the  former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola as SSG, said  Aregbesola could not achieve his motive of harassing PDP members through probes.

He  recalled that Oyinola, while serving as the governor, personally reported five of the contractors who handled various projects executed in his administration  to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission  for non-performance after collecting mobilisation fees.
Akinbade asked Aregbesola to account for the N500 million he allegedly collects monthly as security vote and the N25 billion loan his government took from a first generation bank last year.
