The gunmen, who drove in a Golf car and three motorcycles to the check point, were said to have disobeyed the instruction issued to them by the Police to park during a stop-and-search, before they allegedly opened fire on the policemen.
In the ensuing commotion, the policemen were said to have quickly repelled the attack, but lost an officer in the process after he was shot by the gunmen.
Spokesman of the state Police Command, Rilwan Mohammed, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), who confirmed the attack to THISDAY, said: “We lost an officer during the attack, but our men on duty repel the attack.”
