2015: Politicians Should Forget Rigging, Says Oba of Lagos

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu I has said that politicians should change their attitude towards elections by stopping rigging in for democracy to develop well in the country, adding that the era of rigging is over.

“Nigerians are now aware of how to defend their rights. Leaders who will emerge from the process should stop rigging and also get their followers too to change their attitude and follow the right path so that they too can be in a position to question bad leaders,” he said.

Speaking in Kano on Saturday during a public lecture in honour of the CBN Governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi organised by the Bayero University Kano (BUK), the Oba of Lagos urged the government to always be in constant touch with the respected traditional rulers the country has.

According to him, traditional rulers are always relevant when issues that have to do with having a peaceful society are concerned.

“Let us be our brothers-keepers. Political office seekers should be very careful when election time comes. They should change their attitude of do-or-die,” he added.

The Oba called on people in positions of authority, especially governors, to emulate the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, in areas of infrastructural development.

Oba Rilwan also urged government to create more jobs for the teeming youths in the country in order for peace to reign.
